Welcome to Lemington Riverside
Welcome to a primary school that embraces innovation and takes pride in being truly unique.
At Lemington Riverside Primary School, we are an inclusive and vibrant community at the heart of Lemington, overlooking the beautiful River Tyne. We cater for children aged 3 to 11 and are a one-form-entry school, with one class per year group, allowing us to build strong relationships and a close-knit school environment.
Our home is a striking Edwardian building, featuring bright, spacious classrooms, well-equipped libraries, ICT facilities, and inspiring outdoor spaces. In addition, our on-site community hub provides a wide range of activities, services, and support for pupils, families, and the wider community.
We believe primary education should offer far more than academic achievement alone. While our children leave us with strong outcomes, they also take with them rich experiences and lasting memories. Our unique “Lemington Riverside Experience” offers a diverse programme of cultural, creative, and sporting opportunities.
Our dedicated team of teachers and support staff bring enthusiasm, expertise, and innovation into every classroom. They engage in ongoing professional development and educational research to ensure our curriculum remains ambitious, engaging, and relevant.
We are also proud of our exceptional pastoral care. With access to an in-house counsellor, occupational therapist, and a broad network of specialist support, we ensure every child receives the guidance and care they need to flourish.
At Lemington Riverside, we describe ourselves as “bravely different and proudly unique” — unafraid to think creatively and committed to doing what is best for our children and community.
We warmly welcome prospective families to visit us. If you would like to arrange a tour, please get in touch using the contact details on our website — we would be delighted to meet you.

What’s Happening...
Our Year 6 pupils are looking forward to taking part in a special Author Event with Newcastle United Foundation on Tuesday 9 June as part of our growing partnership with the NUFC Foundation through the Premier League Primary Stars programme.
During the day, pupils will take part in a range of creative literacy activities led by children's author Michaela Morgan, alongside Newcastle United Foundation staff. Every child will also receive a book linked to the workshop to take home.
We are delighted to be able to offer opportunities like this to our pupils, helping to inspire a love of reading, writing and storytelling beyond the classroom.

Next week, the Lemington Riverside community says a heartfelt farewell to our caretaker, Mr. John Francis, who retires after an extraordinary 42 years of service to the school.
John joined Lemington Riverside in 1984 and has spent more than four decades caring for our school, supporting our staff and helping generations of children feel safe, welcomed and proud of their surroundings.
To put that remarkable achievement into perspective, when John first walked through the school gates as a member of staff, Wham! were at the top of the UK charts with "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", children played on home computers such as the ZX Spectrum, and Newcastle United had just secured promotion back to the First Division with club legends Kevin Keegan, Chris Waddle and Peter Beardsley representing the Toon Army!
Much has changed since then, but one thing has remained constant: John's commitment to Lemington Riverside.
Over the years, he has witnessed huge changes within education and our local community. He has worked alongside countless teachers, support staff, governors and headteachers, while seeing thousands of children pass through the school's doors. Many former pupils whose classrooms John helped maintain now return as parents and even grandparents of children attending the school today.
For generations of families, John has been a familiar presence. Whether opening the gates on a morning, helping to keep the school safe and secure, preparing for events, or carrying out repairs, he has always taken immense pride in his role and in the school community he has served for so long.
The Francis family have been part of the fabric of Lemington Riverside for more than four decades. Their loyalty, support and contribution to our school community have been immeasurable, and they will always hold a special place in the history of our school.
Headteacher Mr. Heeley said:
"Reaching 42 years of service at one school is an incredible achievement and one that John should be immensely proud of. Throughout his career, he has shown unwavering dedication to Lemington Riverside and has played an important role in the lives of thousands of children and families. The Francis family have been a valued part of our school community for more than 40 years and their contribution will never be forgotten. While we are sad to see John retire, we are delighted that he can now enjoy a long, happy and well-deserved retirement."
As John begins this new chapter, everyone at Lemington Riverside Primary School would like to thank him for his dedication, hard work, friendship and service over the past 42 years.
Few people leave behind a legacy as significant as John's. His contribution to Lemington Riverside has helped shape the school we are today, and his impact will continue to be felt for many years to come.
From all of us at Lemington Riverside: thank you, John.
We wish you a happy, healthy and well-earned retirement! 21 Likes
